Kelly Lavoie Participates in the APK 5K Ruck March/Run
Captain Andrew M. Pedersen-Keel, “PK”, was killed March 11, 2013 in Afghanistan while serving a detachment commander of his Green Beret Special Forces team. The APK Charities was founded by his parents and seeks to provide the American public an awareness of our military, and a way to support America’s active, retired, wounded and fallen warriors.
2016 marked the third anniversary of the APK 5K/5K Ruck March/Walk and Kids Fun Run. Crossfit New Haven had adopted the APK Foundation as their chosen charity and over 40 members decided to participate in the event.
Kelly Lavoie, who is a member of Crossfit New Haven, decided to participate in the March as well. She is paralyzed from the mid thigh down, but decided to wear long leg braces, use crutches, and walk the 5K with a 20 lb pack on her back filled with non perishable items. If he and others were willing to lose their lives for our freedom, she believed the least she could do was walk the route. Surrounded with members of her Crossfit New Haven team, she completed the course in a little less than two hours.
